Acrylic paint on gallery box canvas, enclosed in a light installation. Painting is lit from within and the brightness is adjustable. 20”x20”x1.5”. Edition 1 of 1.
LACUNA explores the violence of absence, the space between what remains and what has been lost. Fractured passages of electric red, orange, and pale blue collide with an uncompromising field of black, creating a stark division between chaos and silence. Unlit, the composition carries an unexpected delicacy, its pale blues and vivid pinks offering a deceptive sense of calm. When illuminated, those colors undergo a visceral transformation, erupting into incandescent reds and fiery oranges as darker forms emerge and consume the surface. Two opposing states exist within the same work, exposing the fragile boundary between presence and erasure, and the unsettling possibility that something can disappear without ever truly being gone.
